Greetings!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a peaceful and joyous holiday season with family and friends. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new PCA members and welcome back all of our members who have renewed for 2012. We had a very successful 2011 and are looking forward to many good things in 2012.

Our new Board of Directors and I have chosen to dedicate our efforts this year on behalf of the PCA to extend our visibility as coaches and the visibility of the coaching profession in the Pittsburgh area and nationwide, to reach out in service to our community, to further engage our membership, and to undertake activities crucial to sustaining the organization. As we consider ideas for new projects in the coming year, we have agreed to consider first and foremost how they will serve you, our members, and how they will serve the profession of coaching.

We have a series of informative, engaging programs planned that will cover coaching skill building and ethical considerations as well as business and personal development. We are also committed to keeping you informed about the changes in membership requirements being instituted by the International Coach Federation and how they affect us as an ICF chapter. We are dedicated to identifying and informing you of ways to address these changes and opportunities to meet the requirements if you are interested.

Our programming committee is working to obtain ICF CCEUs for all monthly meeting programs and many of the monthly teleclasses. We are also working on a streamlined procedure for you to obtain the corresponding CCEU certificates. The Research and Education committee is working to keep you informed of educational opportunities and the latest coaching research. Our Marketing, Public Relations, and Social Media committees will continue to promote our coaches and our coaching activities. The Membership committee is working to attract new members and support activities to engage our current membership. Thanks to the efforts of our Sponsorship Committee, we hope to continue generating funds through corporate and university sponsors that enable us to finance activities and programs to benefit our membership.

I invite you become involved in our efforts and to take advantage of all the PCA has to offer! On behalf of the 2012 Board of Directors, I look forward to serving you in the coming year.

Mindfulness means paying attention, on purpose and non-judgmentally, to the present moment. Coaching mindfully enables coaches to be more present, see more clearly, listen more deeply and respond more effectively to their clients through reduced stress, enhanced concentration and creativity, and improved self-management and resilience.

Join us on Wednesday, January 11 for our monthly Lunch and Learn as we investigate the integration of mindfulness into coaching. Mindfulness not only supports and enhances coaching skills, but has an integrative function as well allowing mindful practitioners to smoothly integrate multiple skills and competencies.

During this session, participants will gain experience through a mindful awareness of self exercise, observe a coaching dyad that integrates mindfulness, and will connect the concept and skills of mindful awareness in the application of the ICF core competencies of coaching.

Dr. Michael Forlenza is an Executive Coach and has special training in both Mindfulness and Coaching. He is the Executive Director of the Professional Coach Certification Program and Associate Dean of the School of Leadership and Professional Advancement at Duquesne University.

Preparing for the new ICF Membership Requirements

Starting April 1, 2012, there will be three ICF Membership Categories

ICF Credentialed Member is for anyone who has completed at least 60 hours of coach specific training and received credentials through ICF.

ICF Coach Member is for anyone who has completed at least 60 hours of coach specific training and is a working professional coach with internal or external clients.

ICF Provisional Member is for anyone who is a working professional coach with internal or external clients, but HAS NOT YET completed at least 60 hours of coach specific training. This category was designed for current ICF members. They will have 1 year to obtain the required training hours prior to the policy taking full effect on April 1, 2013.

The 60 hours of coach specific training must be aligned with the requirements for the ICF's ACC Portfolio Application credential path. PCA will provide information on programs that provide our members with the acceptable training on our website and in this newsletter.
